Here are some book suggestions which have high interest for both reluctant and voracious readers....

Lobel, Arnold. Days with Frog and Toad. ages 3-8. A short chapter book with funny, touching incidents about these two friends. One in a series of four outstanding books.
Murphy, Frank. George Washington and the General’s Dog. ages 6-8. A true story about George Washington’s early life, love of dogs and the Revolutionary War. An excellent story which introduces the concepts of bravery and civility displayed by Washington.
Rylant, Cynthia. Henry and Mudge. ages 3-8. Henry and the increasingly huge Mudge have small adventures and come to be best friends. If you enjoy this one, be sure to check out the others in the series.
Scieszka, Jon. Knights of the Kitchen Table. ages 7-ll. Three boys use a magical book to travel back in time and confront a knight, a giant and a dragon. Readers will laugh their way through this and the other books in the "Time Warp Trio" series.
Paulsen, Gary. Woods Runner. ages 9-12. Set during the American Revolution, 13 year old Samuel returns from a hunting trip to discover his parents have been kidnapped by British soldiers and Iroquois Indians. It is Samuel’s job to rescue them.
Paulsen, Gary. Lawn Boy. ages 9-12. Told by the Lawn Boy who receives a riding lawnmower for his 12th birthday. He quickly builds a business that culminates with a local mobster wanting a piece of Lawn boy’s business. Funny and entertaining!
Lupica, Mike. Heat. ages 9-12. A story about family, friendships, coming of age and a boy’s passion for baseball. This book made the NY Times Bestseller list.
Horowitz, Anthony. Stormbreaker. ages 9-12. An action adventure story with intrigue and mystery.
Tomasi, Salvatore. The Boys from Brooklyn: The Great Robbery. ages 10-14. A story of friendship, competition, father-son relationships, mother’s guiding hand, doing what is right, and peer pressure. Set in Brooklyn, NY, summer living is fun and easy for 8 boys until one of them dares the rest of his friends to do something risky and that may mess them up for life.
Sides, Hampton. Ghost Soldiers. ages 14+ . An inspiring story set in WWII about a mission to rescue American POWs held in Japanese POW camps.
