Summer Writing Fun
Summer break from school can mean lost skills by autumn. There are a considerable number of fun summer writing activities which can help the child to continue practicing skills they have learned and be ready for the start of the new school year.
Follow up:
Having a Writing Box available will encourage children to continue developing fine motor skills, encourage them to use their imagination and develop higher level thinking, all of these skills are crucial to the writing process. Be sure to include:
a. Crayons, markers, coloring pencils
b. A selection of colored paper as well as a variety of textured paper
c. Glue sticks
d. Scissors (make sure they are age appropriate,)
e. Finger paint or shaving cream
f. Other fun craft items
Cutting and coloring are activities that help to strengthen and refine fine motor skills needed for hand writing. Encourage your child to draw pictures or create art work that would accompany a story or book they are reading. Take nature walks or evening strolls with your child and encourage them to make up stories about things they see around them. Young children can dictate a story for you to write which they can then illustrate. Older kids can journal about their summer vacations.
You can set up a Journal Jar with writing prompts. This makes a great gift idea as well. http://tiny.cc/wmft1
